As part of our smart meter project, New Plumbing Solutions will be attending your property, and the following actions will be carried out.
Customer sites with 20mm service mains:
- Your existing mechanical meter (meter number beginning with RW) will be removed, and the final reading of this meter in kilolitres will be recorded.
- A new 20mm Landis + Gyr integrated smart meter will be installed. Its Meter number will be a 10 digit alphanumeric number beginning with SM. You will need to enter this number when setting up your MyRous account.
Customer sites with 25mm or 32mm service mains:
- Your existing mechanical meter (meter number beginning with RW) will be removed, and the final reading of this meter in kilolitres will be recorded.
- A new Itron mechanical meter will be installed and its Meter number will be a 9 digit alphanumeric number beginning with WM. You will need to enter this number when setting up your MyRous account.
- A new Edenworth smart logger will also be installed. This will send the data recorded at the mechanical meter to the MyRous app.
Customer sites with service mains 40mm or larger:
- Your existing mechanical meter will be retained. Your Meter number (beginning with RW) is the number you will need to enter when setting up your MyRous account.
- A new Edenworth smart logger will also be installed. This will send the data recorded at the mechanical meter to the MyRous app.
Backflow Prevention Devices:

If there is no existing backflow device at your property, a new device will be installed which will be owned and maintained by Rous. Annual charges for this device will be calculated on a daily pro-rata basis commencing on the day of installation and included in your normal water bill.

If there is an existing backflow device at your property, it will be tested and provided it’s found serviceable will be reinstalled in the new meter service frame. Rous will assume ownership, annual testing, inspections, record keeping and end-of-life replacement for this device. Rous will also pay a rebate in the form of a water account credit to compensate you for remaining life of this device on a pro-rata basis and an assumed service life period of 10 years. Annual charges for this device will be calculated on a daily pro-rata basis commencing on this date shown above and included in your normal water bill.

If your property has a service size of 40mm or greater, this project will not involve any changes or work related to your backflow device. If you would like Rous to manage the annual tests, inspections and record keeping at your property, then please contact Rous Customer Service team on 02 6623 3800.
- If your property has been assessed as having a low risk rating for backflow, it will not require a backflow device to be fitted.
